COMPANY OVERVIEW

Baked in Michigan. Trusted Across the Country.

Metropolitan Baking Company is a family-owned, high-volume commercial bakery headquartered in Hamtramck, Michigan. Founded in 1945, Metropolitan has grown from a local bread bakery into a major fresh and frozen supplier of breads, buns and rolls for restaurants, foodservice operators, schools, universities, institutions, stadiums, retailers, distributors and nationally recognized brands.

Today, Metropolitan combines generations of baking knowledge with modern automation, expanded production capacity, robust shipping infrastructure and the flexibility to support both branded and behind-the-scenes manufacturing programs. The result is a bakery that can serve a neighborhood restaurant with the same seriousness, consistency and care it brings to a national account.

QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY

Built for Demanding Customers

Metropolitan’s food-safety and quality systems support customers that require disciplined controls, traceability, dependable specifications and verified third-party standards. Quality is managed from ingredient receiving through production, packaging, storage and shipment.

Quality & Food-Safety Strengths

  • BRCGS Global Food Safety certification with a company-reported AA announced-audit score.
  • Kosher Pareve and Pas Yisrael certification for qualifying products bearing the K-COR symbol.
  • Preventive food-safety programs, sanitation controls and employee training.
  • Ingredient, lot and finished-product traceability.
  • In-process quality checks and finished-product specification control.
  • Allergen, label and packaging controls are appropriate to customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Cold-chain management for frozen programs.
  • Customer-specific documentation and quality expectations for large food service and co-manufacturing accounts.
  • Continuous improvement in proofing, baking, handling, packaging and damage reduction.

Reliability Beyond the Audit

Certifications matter, but the operational result matters more: a consistent loaf, bun or roll that runs correctly at the customer, arrives in specification and performs as intended. Metropolitan’s long-term relationships and expanding co-manufacturing business are built on that day-to-day reliability.
